NAC also acts directly as an antioxidant, binding to reactive oxygen species and thereby reducing oxidative stress. The use of NAC is justified in conditions where oxidative stress is an underlying factor in a disease, such as acute liver dysfunction, acute pancreatitis, sepsis, and in critically ill dogs.

1 tablet contains 600 mg of NAC

Use as soon as possible after the event (according to package instructions) is also justified if the animal has ingested xylitol, drugs toxic to the animal (e.g., paracetamol), or plants, fruits, etc., that cause poisoning, as well as following a snake bite. In acute situations requiring veterinary care, the use of this product should always be mentioned to the attending veterinarian.

NAC has also been found to have a mucolytic effect, so its use in connection with, for example, kennel cough may alleviate the animal's condition.

Instructions for veterinarians/dosage:

Acute liver-straining situations:

Orally. Initial dose:

140-280 mg of NAC per kg of body weight

(140 mg/kg is the most commonly used

dose). Thereafter, 70 mg per kg of body

weight every 6 hours for at least 7 doses.

Use in cats

Can be used in cats, but oral absorption is limited (only approx. 20% is absorbed).
