Physiological effects
Methylcobalamin is the active and highly efficiently absorbed coenzyme form of vitamin B12 and the only form of vitamin B12 that can directly participate in homocysteine metabolism.
Vitamin B12 contributes to normal red blood cell formation, normal homocysteine metabolism, the function of the nervous and immune systems, and energy metabolism. It also helps reduce fatigue and exhaustion and contributes to normal psychological functions.
The need for vitamin B12 is increased by, among other things, physical exertion, stress, malabsorption, use of birth control pills, an unbalanced diet, heavy alcohol consumption, and irregular lifestyle habits.
